On Sunday, Carey and I tried on our "what will weekends be like when both kids are at school?" hats and found they fit. Her employer, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, observed Transgender Day of Visibility by bringing their new commissioner, Amanda, and her wife to one of the DEC's environmental education centers in the capital region. After a few minutes of speeches, we set off on a hike around the 450+ acre property. Ended up hoofing it for a little over 2.5 miles and enjoyed meeting fellow tree huggers. Neither bikes nor dogs allowed on the 10 miles of trails, alas, since it's also a wildlife preserve and the noise and predators would scare them away.
