Saratoga National Battlefield by bike

I thought I blogged about my ride there last July, but apparently not. Anyway, fast forward 10 months and I cajoled Carey and Greta to suit up in their spandex for a pedal through history. There are 10 tour stops in about a 10-mile road loop with stories about Gen. Burgoyne's British troops vs. Gen. Gates' American freedom fighters doing a bloody three-week battle in the fall of 1777 that is now regarding as a turning point in the Revolutionary War. Major General Benedict Arnold also played a role -- a good one -- before his later treachery. The stars and stripes won the battle, sending the British back to Ticonderoga to lick their wounds. Nearly 1,500 dead, impaled by bayonets or obliterated by cannon fire.
