In preparation for next weekend's Gravel Goblin, Carey and I thought it would be a good idea to get some riding in at elevation. So Google recommended Rensselaerville, a tiny town on the edge of Albany County that dates back to the start of the 18th century. We found a loop that started near the post office, where we parked our car and saddled up. It was about 200' straight up out of the lot and didn't really relent until we got off the trafficked roads and onto some gravel through the Partridge Run Wildlife Management Area, which was really quite lovely. Didn't see a partridge, but saw a very large heron and we think some kind of grouse. Also happened upon a very old cemetery, with gravestones dating back to the early 1700s. All in all, a lovely late morning/afternoon, if a little lung-busting.
