Her two children and all four grandchildren journeyed to South Lake this weekend to wish Patricia Cheryl Merrill a very happy 80th birthday. God knew, too, and kept the weather mostly mild and sunny. Greta and I rode our bikes to the dam on Saturday, Esme and Greta helped Grandpa re-paint the South Lake rock and we all enjoyed a boat ride Saturday just before sunset. Oh, and Esme baked a homemade blueberry lemon cake, featuring various fillings and frostings, as well as sugared lemon zest. This diabetic didn't try it, but grandma declared it excellent, and that's high praise, even from a birthday girl! A tip of the hat to son-in-law Peter as well, for being the lead cook for the birthday meal, which was seasoned salmon with perfectly grilled asparagus and a corn/tomato/onion relish of some sort. Delicious.
