Day 14.5: Paris!

With 12 hours to kill in the City of Lights before our flight from Paris to Boston, we Merrills didn't mess around! After arriving at 6:30 a.m. on an overnight flight from Nairobi, we hopped the train into the city center and strolled from the Eiffel Tower up the Avenue Matignon to the Grand and Petit Palais and back up the Champs-Élyssés to the Arc de Triomphe, topping it off with a Metro stop at the Louvre for a glimpse of I.M. Pei's glass pyramid. The French capital is bedecked with Olympic rings, though from what we saw of the unfinished venues, there is still a fair bit of construction work to be done! It'll be fun to watch the aerial shots of the city on NBC when the games begin knowing that we saw some of those sites in person just two weeks prior.

He tells me he's shaving the 17-year-old goatee tomorrow.  Shame.

  1. I'm no stranger to the vacation "beard" myself. Keep it going!

  2. That is one intercontinental family! Can't believe how chipper y'all look after those flights and sightseeing. Not sure if you've followed the political news here, but you may consider staying over there for a while. Anywhere over there really.
