The nicest state employee ever

Carey volunteered for about 7 hours this weekend for the Department of Labor, which is buried under hundreds of thousands of unemployment claims. After applicants fill out an initial web form, all the information must be verified and questions asked to certify each weekly claim. So naturally our about-to-be-bankrupt state called on volunteers and our Carey answered the call. Some of the things I overheard from the friendliest government official ever wearing pajamas:

"Oh, April 16th... it's almost time to sing Happy Birthday to you!"
"Your employer’s address is in Bethesda, Maryland? My kids were born there!"
"The Air Force? Greatest job I ever had!"

In all, she made 40 calls and completed 16 claims. The remaining claimants will have to talk to a much grumpier, less enthusiastic state employee on another day.
