Anybody remember that store? Like Waldenbooks in the mall, but cheaper? Anyway, I heard in one of my podcasts (The Press Box) that independent bookstores are again flourishing in certain parts of the country, or at least they were pre-pandemic. The demise of Borders and Barnes & Noble made room for them again, apparently. There are still millions who rely on Amazon for their books or have gone entirely digital, but small, independent shops are filling a niche. A nice story in these troubled times.
Anyway, reading recommendations. I increased my book review output for the AP this year and thought maybe someone would enjoy one or two of these. Alas, the pandemic has put book reviewing on hold as the reduced staff at the AP is reassigned to pandemic coverage instead of entertainment. So I have one more to write -- a Guillermo del Toro novel about vampires called The Hollow Ones that comes out in August. But here's my 2020 so far:

ReplyDeleteYeah, they're great. Simmons, The Watch, The Press Box and Recappables are my go-to's. Did Binge Mode when they were doing Game of Thrones, but not the Harry Potter and Star Wars ones --- I think you and Carah were into those?
