Parents' Weekend

Carey and I both made it down to D.C. this year thanks to an earlier-than-usual work convention for me. As always, it was great seeing Greta in her home away from home. We enjoyed coffee from the student-run "Dav" (Short for Davenport?) upon arrival on Friday, followed by a lovely dinner with most of her closest friends at Thai Chef just off Dupont Circle. Saturday we participated in a Walk to End Alzheimer's on the mall with her sorority sisters, followed by an outdoor food and college fest on the quad to celebrate the successful end of a $500 million (!!!) fundraising campaign, then an 8-mile run for Greta and me, and dinner with my college pal Dudley and one of his daughters this evening at Lebanese Taverna. Tomorrow it's breakfast and goodbyes and a long drive home. See you at Thanksgiving, Big Kid!

We ran from the AU campus down to the C&O canal, through Georgetown, past the Kennedy Center, over the Memorial Bridge all the way to Iwo Jima! Full disclosure: I was wiped out by the humidity and only made it a little under 7 miles. But Greta was determined to run the farthest she ever had and didn't stop until 8 showed up on her Apple Watch!

Saturday morning started with a 2-mile walk around the mall to end Alzheimer's. I forget whether we managed to end it or not.
