Continuing a tradition I first blogged about in 2010, we went on a 2.25-mile hike on New Year's Day at Lisha Kill Recreation Area. It was a bit swampy after all our recent rain, but we enjoyed being a family of four and a rousing game of a "I'm Going on a Picnic and I'm Bringing ____" (insert alphabetical item that each person must remember and add to). For the historical record: An apple, a blanket, a cairn, a dolly, an elephant, a fungus, a giraffe, a horse, an iguana, a jumping bean, a koala bear, a llama, the Merrill family, a night nurse, Timothy Olyphant, a pumpkin, and a quetzal.
