Another weekend, another mountain bike race. Only one more left, the state championships, on June 5. This one was just about 45 minutes from home, in Queensbury, N.Y. Lovely trail system called Gurney Lane, where a local club has built and groomed some of the best trails in the capital region. Greta said it was her favorite, with good flow, not too much climbing, and only one really difficult obstacle, an uphill rock garden. So she cranked out two laps, just over six miles, in about 80 minutes. She heeded the coaches' advice and drank a lot of water starting 48 hours prior and throughout the race and was still smiling when she crossed the finish line. Official result: 7th out of 13 riders in her category (JV Girls).
