Mask Musings

They say artists -- from Leonardo da Vinci to Jerry S. Merrill -- have the most difficulty painting eyes. I imagine that problem is magnified during this pandemic. Unless the twinkle is particularly pronounced, it's hard to tell when someone is smiling or frowning. Just the other day I made MULTIPLE jokes in the checkout line and the cashier didn't laugh once! For these shots it helps that Greta's head is tilted, indicating a jocular reaction, while for Carey, the eyes suggest a smile but the crossed arms say defiance.
