We almost survived!

The first time we played the Girards Christmas present, Forbidden Island, we died before anyone got a second turn. The second time we cheered our successful helicopter liftoff from the island only to read the directions more closely and realize we played wrong! Turns out when a tile floods, you remove the tile AND the flood card from the deck. In other words, every time you draw a flood card, you're going to get a tile that is still in play. And that's going to make you drown, drown, drown. I do enjoy the game, though, probably more than the kids and Carey. The kids have to sort of warm up to it (winning helps), and Carey doesn't like how it often devolves into an argument over how to survive. That's the part I like -- watching my family flip from argumentative to cooperative and back again, sometimes within seconds. I always hear my mom's voice in my head, though, and would like everyone to be quieter when they play. We yell too much trying to make our point.

In other news, Greta earned a spot on the Suburban Council Concert Band! She got the news this morning when she showed up at band practice. Grandparents, that concert will be Saturday, March 30, at 2pm in Ballston Spa. UAlbany Men's Lacrosse plays Hartford that afternoon, so if any of you can make it in my place, please do!
