Day 9 (Nio): Historiska & Gröna Lund

If your Swedish is as good as mine is at this point, you'll know we went to the Swedish History Museum and an amusement park that Anneli tells me translates roughly to "Green Area."

First, the museum, which featured an interactive exhibit called "Viking for a Day." It was there we met Helmut the Large.

Also making an appearance, Bjorn Not so Big, Helga the Helper and Elga One-Arm.

The kids enjoyed baking bread over an open fire and sitting on a log and bashing each other with large beanbags -- a Viking custom used to settle disputes. "Hey, my taxes are too high! If I smash your skull with a bag and maybe put rocks in it instead of sand, will you lower them?"

Carey and I practiced our archery. I think Kira was more impressed by Carey.

After lunch at the museum (a lovely open-faced smoked salmon sandwich for me and a so-called chicken salad for Care, minus the mayo or anything else that would make it an American chicken salad. Grilled chicken on a bed of quinoa with pickled onions and cashews and avocado!), we hopped the bus to Gröna Lund. We gave the kids a couple hours to go off on their own and ride what they wanted while the adults shepherded Kira around the kiddie rides. But as you can see, these kiddie rides had teeth.

The park was filled with more flowers than reasonably should be in an amusement park, but they made for good backdrops and I couldn't resist posing the love of my life in a couple.
