Heading into the hottest weekend of the summer, there's some good news to report. Greta passed her summer camp swim test yesterday. She doggie paddled the length of the pool without touching the ground. Honestly, it sounds impossible to me, since she managed only about 10-15 feet every time Carey and I practiced with her. But when a camp counselor she just met four days ago encouraged her, she splashed away and made it from one end to the other. Perhaps it's just an example of positive peer pressure? Perhaps it also means I should ask a neighbor to take her to the park for 15 minutes without training wheels so we can cross that off the list, too?
Anyway, it means Greta can now be in the "big pool" on summer camp swim days. She still won't be over her head, but she can be largely unsupervised in the adult pool, which ranges from 3-10'.
