Our local independent theater, with its threadbare seats and popcorn on the floor and crappy sound system, shows first-run movies for $6 on Tuesdays. We don't go too often because I'm a snob and figure even if tickets are just $12 for a pair, plus snacks, you're looking at $20-ish for an experience that usually isn't much better than my 65" TV in the basement, where all movies now end up within a couple months of release.
Anyway.
We saw "Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale" with our friends the Corbins last night and it was lovely. Maybe it's the contrast of the chaotic, divisive world we inhabit with the fading aristocracy of 1930 England, or maybe it's just spending two hours with characters we so thoroughly got to know during the TV show's five-season run and the first two movies, but the 100 or so people in the theater laughed in all the right places and I got the impression that everyone just felt charmed. Chuffed, even.
