Fabulous 50 has crept into the Merrill house again, so birthday
blogging falls into my hands. And what a doozy of a year to recount for
you, Rob! You are down 43 pounds, run 5 miles without getting winded,
shun white food in all its forms, and could be a poster child for "I May Have Diabetes but it Doesn't Have Me" campaign. Your discipline is
astounding and we are all very proud of you. Most important, you are
healthy and happy (well, as happy as your curmudgeonly self can be), and
enter this new decade looking and feeling great.
On the
home-front, you had a very mellow 2021; with the pandemic still surging you
weren't keen for travel or other adventure. So you logged hundreds
of miles hiking with Yeager, biking the Mohawk-Hudson trail, and running
throughout Old Niskayuna. You balanced those excursions with loads of
reading (and book reviews!), various Netflix, Prime, Apple TV, and Hulu
binges, and daring new kitchen creations.
On the work-front,
you continued to impress union leadership with your verbal and written
prowess, colorful publications, and compelling rally chants. You have
managed the political fray with aplomb, and deftly handle the local
media. It will be interesting to see what the coming year brings!
All
in all, the last year flew by, and I am sure the coming year will too.
But I hope for at least a minute you can enjoy the view from the
proverbial hilltop on this magnificent milestone birthday. We love you
so much and hope your birthday wish comes true!
