Honored Artist II

Last night we attended a reception at the state capitol for Greta and hundreds of other area schoolchildren, grades K-8, whose art was chosen to be displayed in the concourse below Empire Plaza. She was one of eight students from Van Antwerp School honored. Her work did not have a name, but was constructed from four squares of Styrofoam, carved, painted and reassembled to reveal a larger image. The sign below notes that she was inspired by an artist named Nicholas Krushenick, whose modern art is part of the permanent exhibit in the concourse. Specifically, his work entitled "Faster than Sunshine," dated 1968. I've reproduced it below, because, the Internet. Needless to say, we're awfully proud of our young woman. She really complains a lot about having to do art as "homework," but she obviously has some talent and teachers who encourage her to keep finding new ways to express herself. Well done, Greta.
