Play ball!
Rookie Ball started today with a parade from the high school to the ball fields in the morning, followed by first pitch in the afternoon. Lincoln and Jack play for a team sponsored by Modern Auto Body. It's pretty much the same team as last year, stacked by the coach, who has his son on it and a bunch of his friends, all of whom seem very obsessed with baseball. I don't suspect they'll lose a game. The boys were asked to create their own team name and chose Collisions. Games are on Tuesdays and Saturdays. And the best part? They're now allowed to run for doubles. If the first base coach yells, "Dig! Dig! Dig!" it means run over the bag and to the right for a single. If he says, "Banana turn!" it means round the base about 10 feet and then if he yells, "Dig!" again you can stretch it to a double. Otherwise you return to first. It's all very complicated. But Lincoln is still smiling and it makes me proud to watch him do what I recall so fondly from my childhood.
