Whatta loooong weekend!

We decided to double the size of our child pool this weekend, watching Duncan and Shaw McVety from Thursday to Sunday evening. School was closed Thursday and Friday for Rosh Hashanah. Happy New Year, Jewish readers.

Anyway,  as you can imagine, I was pretty psyched to care for four kids. Their dad Drew -- who lives with his new wife and young daughter in Brooklyn and is part of "The Last Ship" chorus on Broadway -- couldn't afford to take time off work and their mom Nicole -- one of Carey's closest friends who has always helped us out in times of need (late trains mucking with after school pick-up, back-to-school night babysitting, you name it) -- is in Las Vegas for three weeks performing as part of some strange State Farm confab. So Nicole's mom watched the kids for a week, we got them for four days, and now Drew's parents are here for a week.

We spent many hours at playgrounds, enjoyed a 3D home theater screening of "The Croods," went to see "The Boxtrolls," and ate a lot of apples.

Greta -- my little blogger protege -- posted some photos from one of our playground excursions, but here are a few more.

Nine-year-old Duncan McVety, ace Skylander player and fearless climber.
I swear to God, I asked Lincoln the best part of climbing poles and ropes and he said, "the tickle."
Sam Herbst, not one of the kids we were watching, but he lives down the street and met us at the playground.
Big feet, big smile.
No idea what he has to pout about. He's 7 and has $20,000 in college savings already.
