Somebody is Seven!

Happy 7th birthday to our super silly and oh-so-sweet son!

I honestly don’t know where to begin when I think of all that has happened in the last year. You have grown up so very, very much! You are smart and silly and sensitive and sassy. Seven is simply sure to be superb!

Like your sister, you thrived in Mrs. Dorton’s first-grade classroom. Your reading skills really took off, you became a math maniac, and your outstanding “cooperative spirit” was noted by your music, art, and gym teachers. It was a really great year, and Daddy and I are very proud of how hard you worked. Even though there were many days where you hemmed and hawed about homework, you always got it done. The thing you like most about school is recess, followed closely by lunch, then the after school program (ASP). You are a king on the foursquare court, a creator of magical games, and full of funny antics to make friends laugh. You have mastered armpit farts, and recently discovered how to make a similar noise with your knee. You were incredibly proud of your technique…to you it was so fantastic and a funny event that I had to laugh, too.

Some things haven’t changed. You still love your silky blankets, Bluey, Other Bluey, Whitey, Other Whitey, and Greeny. You still love to bite on two fingers on your right hand when going to sleep. You still want a book, a cuddle, and a song at bedtime. And you still annoy your sister, sometimes. Although you are often thick as thieves and play beautifully together, you sure know how to push her buttons! You love to hide things that belong to her to try and get her to play with you.

You still love baseball and soccer, and have resumed your little fish status at the pool. Thankfully you grew three inches this year, so your head is above the water line in the big pool. We also have a lot of fun playing the Wii together, building Legos, and pretending we are lemurs on a floating island or sugar bats living in a cave. It amazes me how quickly you master computer games and you do a great job coaching me so I can keep up with you. You enjoy performing for us. You love to sing and dance and do magic tricks. You also like to hide in very small spaces like Houdini, and enjoy climbing doorways in your bare feet. While you are pretty shy in crowds and quiet at school, with close friends you ham it up!

Your love of reading is a great sign for the future. Just today you read a chapter book cover-to-cover without taking a break! It thrills Daddy and me to see such independence. Car rides are often silent these days because both you and Greta have your eyes buried in books.

You are starting to help out more around the house, volunteering to do dishes and help me bake and even occasionally cleaning your room. Although you did ask for a dollar the other day when you finished the dishes. Ummm, nope!

You brought home two class fish from school yesterday, so you now have a little aquarium in your room. I'm excited to see you become more responsible in the coming year as you care for Bubbles and Swirl!

Seven is bound to be loads of fun, my dear, sweet, little one. We’re excited for the sensational year ahead! Happy Birthday, Bug!
