"Summer's going fast..."

The rest of that classic Rush lyric from their 1987 song "Time Stand Still" goes like this:

"Nights growing colderChildren growing upOld friends growing older"

Bob Babcock and I wrote it in each other's high school yearbooks in 1990.  33 years later and it's still true. That's a good lyric.

I can see in my Blogger dashboard that Greta has started a draft post about her first week of school, so y'all can look forward to that. Maybe. In the meantime, I agree with my cousin Kim who said that she thinks technology makes the parent-child college relationship a lot easier than it was for our folks back in the day. Greta texts little things to Carey or me throughout the day. Today it was a photo of her California Rolls for lunch. We've also FaceTimed a couple times and she's still smiling, so what more could we ask for?

Linc is in the thick of his cross country training. He time trialed two miles the other day at 12:35. Thinks he can go much faster. First race is this Saturday. Other than that, he's enjoying not having much to do until junior year starts on Sept. 7. I should give him props here for taking care of the cat. They spend at least an hour together in the early afternoons as Linc naps or watches his phone either in Greta's room or his own. Yeager is getting so old that he doesn't police the upstairs as much as he used to, so Mittens has a little more free rein, though he must sleep with his eyes (and ears) open, because once Yeager's paws hit the stairs, Mittens is back through the baby gate into Greta's room. It's not all good news though -- Mittens has thrown up a few times just to remind us that Greta is not around. As if we could forget.
