I wasn't there, but I'm told by the honoree that I need to blog about it. So. Greta Corleen Merrill celebrated her 14th birthday with a party at Erie Canal's Lock 7 in Niskayuna on May 4. Seven classmates and her brother gathered by the water for a homemade picnic of baked ziti, tossed and fruit salad, and a four-layer vanilla cake with cream cheese frosting and fresh strawberries. Before the repast, they hiked the woods on the other side of the Mohawk-Hudson Bike Trail. Carey gave them a map and told them to be back in an hour and they actually returned! Two of them were wet (one of them was Lincoln), but their smiles suggest they enjoyed their independence.
