In all seriousness, the further removed we get from our military days, the more unbelievable it all seems. You all get to read quite often about Carey the marvelous mother and wife, but she truly was a dedicated member of the Armed Forces. The cynic in me always wanted to poo-poo it as naivete, but as we approach our 19th wedding anniversary, I see it for what it is: A woman who believes in the Core Values the Air Force espouses when it is at its best: Integrity First, Service Before Self, and Excellence in All We Do.

Memorialized
The Niskayuna Veterans Memorial was formally dedicated on Friday evening. In attendance were N.Y. Sen. James Tedisco, the Niskayuna Town Board, 37 men on motorcycles, a couple WWII vets in wheelchairs, and Maj. Carey Ann Mathews Merrill, USAF JAG, 1998-2007. We bought a brick for $50 and put our feet near it for a photo.
