We experienced our first Niska Day on Saturday. Think Rodman Field Days with carnival rides replacing the Pepsi ring toss. They hire a traveling carnival to run half a dozen rides, bring in local restaurants to sell everything from BBQ ribs to gyros to ice cream, and invite you to walk through a community tent so you can feel bad about not joining any of the area's eight gyms or still using natural gas instead of solar power.
