The Blizzard, by Lincoln David Merrill

Written as part of a "realistic fiction" homework assignment. You be the judge.

Jane was 16. She was coming from high school. She was in a blizzard. She had never seen a blizzard before. 

Jane wanted to be an inventor. She made a robot that could help hospitals. Jane made it because she once broke her leg. Her leg still makes her limp. She had it on for eight years. 

Jane wasn't looking at where she was going. Jane slipped on the ice. Jane landed on her arm. "Ow,' she moaned, when Jack saw her. 

Jack brought her to the hospital. The nurse took Jane into a room. There Jane saw her robot. Jane's robot started to help her, but it shut down. Jane could not fix it because she broke her dominant hand. 

She had to think fast. She told the nurse what to do. The nurse didn't understand. The nurse was deaf. Jane remembered how to use sign language and communicated with the nurse.
