So long, summer

We enjoyed our final August weekend as a family today in South Orange. Not that we won't be a family next weekend, but we won't be together. It's off to South Lake for a week, then the kids are spending a week with my folks followed by a week with Carey's mom. We rendezvous Labor Day weekend in Syracuse for the New York State Fair.

So.

Started things off on Saturday with a hike to New Jersey's only waterfall. Or at least the only waterfall where hikers leave behind dirty diapers as a "we were here!" memento.

Sunday we began with a rhythmic gymnastics competition after Greta and Carey watched the winning Russians' routines from the day before on the computer.

In the afternoon it was a walk down the street to Jack Bailey's house, where he was celebrating the start of his fifth year on earth by having friends over to run around in his backyard and eat pizza and snacks his parents provided.

Shaw, whose hair is red from beta carotene.
It was a superhero party, so they made masks.
Scheming with the birthday boy.
Superhero poses.
A pair of five-year-olds.
We ended this lovely summer day at the community pool, where Greta practiced jumping into the deep end before trying the diving board.
