The Place Between the Waters

That's native for Ticonderoga, which was our Groupon destination this weekend. We drove up the mountain in a hailstorm, but the weather cleared long enough for us to tour the exhibits, walk the grounds, and talk to the staff who live and work on site just like historians imagine they did in 1755. Gorgeous place that three countries and tens of thousands of people died to protect, then abandoned when it lost its strategic importance.

Manning the 6" cannon. More than 13,000 British attacked 3,700 French here in 1787. The French fired their cannons, then retreated, clear cut 900 feet in a field, built a log wall, and massacred the Brits as they tried to cross the open space.

A mid-18th century French coat tailored on site.
Trying on the Tricorn hats of the French militia.
Working the long saw used to cut all the timber that fortifies the place.
They were very pleased to create a log that we should have brought home to heat our house!
Our flower in their flowers.

In the shadow of giants.
Selfie, because why not?
